Three Weeks Old Already!!!

We can hardly believe that Ashley is 3 weeks old today. Seems like we went to the hospital this morning to have her. The big exciting news of the week: she lost her umbilical cord yesterday morning! Her big sister kept hers for over 2 months so we were thrilled that she lost it so quickly and of course decided to give her a "real" bath with the help of big sister.

When we left the hospital, she weighed 6 lbs 3 oz. The next day, Monday, we took her to be checked for her weight and found she had gained an oz. On Thursday at her one week apt, she weighed 6 lbs 10.5 oz!!! Granted, I had just fed her so maybe a few of those oz might not be really her weight but she is growing so well.

Each day now she is staying awake longer & longer. She is such a good little baby. Basically cries when she is hungry, when she has gas and occassionally when she just wants some attention. She is sleeping well at night in her OWN bed next to ours.

For the most part, Elyse is doing great with being a big sister. Sometimes she is a bit rough not realizing. And she inevitably wants to touch her after she has fallen asleep. We are struggling with some typical 2 year old behaviors but slowly, things are starting to settle down & I am hoping that in no time we will be back to our old schedule and habits.

I am healing well. Having a few minor issues with breastfeeding but conquering them day by day. My incision is still quite tender and I have the tiniest infection on one end of the incision but that is being treated with antibiotics so I am guessing it will clear up fairly quickly.

Since Michael is still home, we have had lots of time together as a new family to try new things, find fun things to do and just try to settle into a new routine that consists of a energy-clad toddler and an oh so cute baby. We are also preparing for our next trip to Michigan in August for my brother Nathaniel's wedding. We are really looking forward to that and seeing all our family together again, sharing Elyse & Ashley and just enjoying the summer with everyone.
